The Polestar upgrade appears to be just an optimisation of how the engine/auto box work together with a little increase in BHP even the insurance companies not treating it as a performance upgrade.

So does this mean that Volvo are selling us cars with out a fully optimized engine management system so they can cash in on the Polestar brand.
The amount they are charging for basically a remap and tweak of software and a badge to stick on the boot is silly I had a V70 T5 chipped a while ago with much more power increase than offered by the Polestar upgrade for less than half of current cost. the reason I went to a tuner was the original ECU had problems not solved by Volvo software upgrades and again as now the price for an OEM replacement was silly.
I wonder how long its going to be before the tuning specialists start to offer performance enhancements for less cost.

Focused more on torque than hp. “Chacun a son gout” as Monsieur Macron would say.

Talking about bhp and torque, reminds me of how an F1 engineer once explained it

Bhp is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far through the wall you go

Always loved that analogy

Totally agree, hence why I'll see how it performs during the first 14 days, and if no good, off it will come. If though I get what I think I will, better in gear responses and faster shifts, then maybe it will stay although also agree that at £695 it's very expensive for what a decent tuning company will do for a third of the price.

I've had offers on a decent tune, 310bhp and 295flbt for the T5 for around £350!

I guess Polestar and Volvo will argue this doesn't impact your warranty, however I have emailed Polestar and asked why it is so expensive for such a small increase in power on the T5 for the XC40, increase on in-gear' performance no doubt will be one of their main points, so will be interested in seeing what they have to say on this. Will keep you all posted.

No its about why do Volvo expect a customer to pay for upgrade package at a silly price instead of supplying a correctly tuned/optimized engine at point of sale

Think I'll save the £700 and put it towards the next electric version which will have torque and power to spare ( if volvo get their battery/electrics right}

Unless they purposely hold it back on the map and let polestar charge to optimise "fix" it

Just contacted my insurance company and they want an extra £50 for the polestar upgrade
