No they are not. Neither EURONCAP or IIHS takes this into consideration and I agree with you, they should.

When Toyota pioneered the centre driver's dash in the 2005 Yaris lots of people were saying it improved safety as your eyes on the speedo would be nearer the centre of the road ahead rather than further down on the offside:

It didn't catch on though for some reason.

What about the original Mini with it's centre dash?
Clearly a lot easier and cheaper to build left and right hand cars that way. Keeping other control for Mirrors and Windows central too. Makes sense for Manufacturers.....

Tesla forgot about indicator use in roundabouts  I’m amazed it’s legal in Europe.

When I came to order my new company car last year (which had to be fully electric) my shortlist came down to three cars

XC40 - Because my current PHEV XC40 has been brilliant although the dealer experience have been mixed at best
EX30 - Because I don't need a big car and it was getting great reviews
BMW i4

I ruled the XC40 out as it was not very efficient. I will drive over 25,000 miles this year so efficiency matters. I ruled out the EX30 because of the quoted 10 month lead times (this was September last year) and because any all new cars will have teething problems and don't have the time in my life to be sitting in Volvo dealerships

So I went for the BMW and am still not expecting to see that until the end of next month

There are now EX30s popping up in showrooms so you should be able to sit in one if you ask your local dealer

Forgot about that and we had three! They were pioneers in the dash layout as well! Thinking about it though didn't the Morris 1000 have the same? Had three of those as well.

Mind you, with the size of the speedo you didn't need to look at it! Unlike with the newer XC40 where you have to focus on it - good job it's got a digital readout as well.

My Mrs liked the look of the EX30 and she would definetly prefer something a little smaller than the XC40. Had it been a petrol/mild hybrid i may well have plumped for one...but as its an EV i'm afraid its a none starter for me. And my dealer has got a few for demos etc and his feedback from people having seen them is great funky looks on the outside...but a bit of a step down in interior quality on the inside from the XC40

Yes, it's an interesting car, but like you because it's a BEV, it's a non starter. Really don't know what I'll buy next, FCEVs won't be there yet, so it'll come down to who is offering the biggest petrol engine with the least MH interference. Which I suspect will be the German marques.
