Not sure what I’m doing different to everybody else. Also own an AWD B4P, but I easily average around 40mpg when driving in town.
The car will virtually double that on a really decent motorway run. I’ve just finished a nearly 600-mile drive from Inverness. Trip computer says 11 hours driving time (there’s an overnight stop in there) and 82.5mpg. We started on a full tank, and just refilled about two miles from home…
A few questions on possible :- XC40 Plus B4 AWD mild hybrid

XC40’s fuel tank capacity is 11.88 gal, starting on a full tank and driving 600 miles will return 50.5 mpg. Something is very wrong with that trip computer...Johnkavanagh wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 11:50 am I’ve just finished a nearly 600-mile drive from Inverness. I suspect you are probably right about the trip computer: they’re pretty notoriously inaccurate from experience. However, it wasn’t empty when we filled it back up (wasn’t even at the point of complaining about the fuel level but definitely into the last quarter, although we also know how non-linear the fuel gauges tend to be).
I’m annoyed for not paying more attention to how much was left, but the total cost at the pump was £53.66, so somewhere around 30 litres if the pump prices I can find for that Asda are accurate (£1.91).
So, about 30L is 6.66 gallonJohnkavanagh wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 5:42 pmI suspect you are probably right about the trip computer: they’re pretty notoriously inaccurate from experience. About 600 mile = around 90mpg, so looks like your trip computer is pretty much there (providing the figures supplied are correct).

I’m glad you’re able to work it out.. I can’t even tell if we’re taking about American gallons or British ones…!
90mpg is a good bit higher than the trip computer says (and even I’ll agree that seems silly for a 2.0l petrol), but nevertheless: I appear to get better mpg from our AWD B4 than many others on here. Maybe it’s just the types of journey we do is just a bit of a sweet spot for this drivetrain.
I’m very pleased with it anyway, and not just for it’s frugality!

You too can achieve an average of over 90mpg Sherwood. It’s quite simple; Find a nice long hill, then when the top reset your TM and coast all the way down. When reaching the bottom, pull up safely, take a photo of your TM and post it on here.neither am I, but I'll have some of what you're on....
Great post though
