Worth noting, if you’re using CarPlay, the other USB socket is disabled. So you can use it and listen to the radio, but not music via a usb stick…
It’s not disabled, with CarPlay connected I use the other USB socket as power source for my dash cam. According to the owner’s manual it can also be used to play music from an external audio source, but I never tried that while having CarPlay connected.

For your needs it would probably be much easier and cheaper to use a phone holder, portrait layout would look better for navigation than the small CarPlay landscape layout on the central display. If you have iPhone 12 or 13 you could try out a MagSafe holder that it fits nicely on vertical vents:

Might be able to throw more light on this. Parked up, engine on, phone connected via AA, I can certainly play my USB tunes whilst running Waze in AA. Although the display changes to show the USB icon instead of the album art, it does still play my tunes.

I presume the USB audio will mute if Waze gives a command, but didn't try it as I was stationary.

However, if I run an audio app in Android Auto, it mutes the USB audio in favour of the AA audio - which seems sensible.

Both sockets are powered up though.

Strange. Post time displayed is an hour earlier than actual.

Wonder if it’s Apple CarPlay that then disables (for music) the 2nd usb slot, whereas Google / Android allows both.

Checked and mine comes up with a notification to say to disable USB port when I plug iPhone in…

Does allow charging to both USB ports, regardless of which option you choose (as above)

I don't see that notification. Very curious 🤷🏻‍♂️

I leave the thumb drive in the lower socket permanently, then use a USB A - C > 12v adaptor when we need to charge the second phone too.

Yes, same here, I’ve a usb plugged into the bottom slot constantly (don’t get any notifications if none plugged in) - I’ll try to take a photo tomorrow…

Andy40 is right, I tried plugging in my iPhone for CarPlay while playing music from a USB stick already installed in the second socket and this message showed on the central display:

So it seams this affects only Apple CarPlay and not Android Auto. As I stated before, the second USB socket is not completely disabled, it can still be used as a power source, but not for data transfer.

Cheers 👍🏻

I think in the sub menu, you can turn the notification off, so it will just disable the USB automatically without prompting you…
