Panic - tailgate wouldn't close.

Struts are in the same position unsurprisingly but they are the other way round but water can still run over the rod entry point so still not a robust design.

As mentioned, my year old updated struts started creaking and groaning and were lubricated at the service. Ok for a couple of weeks or so but have started making a noise again. I will lubricate them myself but am not confident of them lasting that long. Pretty poor really. Probably sourced as cheaply as possible.

When the water gets in the struts where does it go? Does it just sit inside the strut?

If enough gets in I guess that it might run out again but the problem is that once water gets in it will start the rusting process irrespective of whether it gets out again.

I’m tempted just to replace mine but I’m going to try Volvo and see what they say.

Can you replace them with reliable gas struts or the rear tailgate too heavy? I've never been convinced that a motorise tailgate offers any real benefit. I left my tailgate open for about 6 hours one day and it didn't sound very comfortable when I closed it....

Power tailgate used to be on certain specs or an option so manual struts will do the job. Doubt that the tailgate design has changed.
