I doubt that it is really necessary now but I have always done it and have never had a mechanical failure so I will continue to do so.
I also tend to try an minimise and heavy inputs until components have bedded in and look to avoid running at constant revs for extended periods for the first 1k miles.
In fairness, these are likely measure will potentially benefit future owners when the cars are older and out of warranty.
