Android Auto

Hi
I picked up my Inscription on Saturday

I live in North Yorkhire and as I didn't want to wait 6 months from order I used a dealer slightly further afield in Leeds that had some pre-ordered that I was able to tweak to my spec so from order to collection only had a 5 week wait

Generally happy but I paid the £300 for Android Auto however cannot get it to work. I called the dealer today who had no idea as he has an iPhone and helpfully suggested I go to another dealer closer to me to sort it out which feels a bit of a cop out

I've tried 4 different cables on 2 different phones which always comes up with "the connected device is unable to access data on this device"

Does anyone have any ideas - bit annoyed I've spent 300 quid on a wasted extra

Thanks

Which phone do you have, running which version of Android?

Also are you plugging it into the correct usb socket.
It’s the one with the white border.
Any other socket and the phone will be seen as a memory stick.

Hmm I’ve got a s9+ running pie and it works fine.
Advice on a google search suggests unpairing the phone and then re pairing.

Also there’s some Samsung help here

Did you connect via cable?

It works on BT but doesn't share the display, just puts the voice through the speakers, tried the Samsung tips but still nothing - annoying as my closest dealer is 50 miles away

Android Auto won’t work through BT. Am I right in thinking that the S9 uses a USB-C cable? Have you tried the one supplied by Samsung? USB-C cables come in different types. Some don’t support USB 3.0 or 3.1 but only support USB 2.0, others don’t support data at all and are only for charging.

USB-C is the connector shape. USB 3.1, 3.0 and 2.0 are the technical standards that govern the capabilities like speed, video, etc.

Can't help much as, following a lot of head scratching, I eventually decided against the option.

Couple of questions though:

What's happening from the car end? If the car is happy, the previously greyed-out AA icon on the app screen should become highlighted when you connect your phone, allowing you to start the application.

What is your phone setting the USB option as when you plug into the car? You may see this just by swiping down on the notification, or you may have to go >settings>device connectivity.

Thanks for all the comments, I'm using the cable supplied with the phone but have also tried others to no avail

The greyed out AA icon isn't coming on, nothing changes on the sensus console and on the phone I just get the pic attached above
