Hi all, sure there are a few of us now that've had their cars a while - so am interested to see what some real numbers are now there must be a few cars that have decent miles on them..
Mines a D4 FE - so an auto box and around 2,300 miles and volvo app seems to think I've averaged 37.6 over those miles.
Even when on decently long motorway runs, in eco mode and cruise on at 65-70 i still cannot get above 50 mpg per trip of around 100 miles.
A very steady 48-49mpg, which is ok - but a little less than i wa hoping for, so fingers crossed a few more miles and things will look up!
anyone else care to share?
MPG - Again :-)
D4 here also. Best ever was a short run (10 miles?) returning 56.5 mpg. Like you I can get mid to high 40s if driving carefully. Overall average after nearly 4000 miles is still 41.5. Been that now for a long time.
Two XC40s - so far! Inscription Pro T5 AWD Auto - Glacier Silver/Blond/21”, fully loaded, from Jan thro Sep 2021. Polestarred. Also one of the first FEs - a D4 AWD Auto - Bursting Blue/Charcoal/20" from Mar thro Aug 2018. Also Polestarred.
I've averaged 34.8 over 1500 miles and that's only just improved because the last few journey I've driven it very sedately !!
On local journeys it is quite shocking how bad it is. Driving how I have always driven I get about 25-28mpg...compared to 32-35 in BMW 3 litre diesel.
It seems any decent use of the throttle massively effects fuel consumption.
I know you will never get near the published figures but at the moment I feel a bit cheated by them.
Beginning to think I just as well have gone for the T5 !!

D4 with 1048 miles on the clock, averaging 39 mpg. Most of the mileage has been motorway, last trip was 115 miles, mostly motorway but some town driving app showing 46.6 mpg. Best figure so far has been 49.3 mpg.
Had a V40 D4 courtesy car with 1000 miles on the clock for a trip to Holland a couple of months back and that seemed much more economical in comparison, not to mention it had a 63 litre fuel tank!

A V40 would be more aerodynamic, lighter and not AWD. Three good reasons why it would be considerably more economical model for model.Neil76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 3:20 pm D4 with 1048 miles on the clock, averaging 39 mpg. Drag Co efficient of our beloved XC40 is a rather high 34, this playing a large part in the averages we might get on the longer trips.
However, back to op's question, I have a T5 with 4.5k on the clock, best trip average has been 38mpg, long term sitting around 28mpg.
What is interesting though, recently had my car polestarred as such and around town already seeing 3mpg per gallon more.
I'm due to do a log trip tonight to Leicester from Bournemouth so will be interested in seeing if the polestarred T5 beats my current best non polestarred trip average of 38mpg with the polestar on.
If that's the case I could see my long term average climb above 30mpg over the coming months, would be happy with that bearing in mind I get 14p a mile from work for a petrol and 11p a mile for a diesel so not a huge amount in it.

XC40 T5 FE - Bursting with blue and now with some extra blue - Polestar
2000 miles on the clock, mixture of journey types, overall average 31.7 mpg. Longer / faster journeys return around 35 mpg. Exclusively in Comfort Mode with the awful Start-Stop disabled. Could do better if I was less heavy footed! (T5 AWD, Auto)
