This is a real shambles. First an update that they consider serious enough to withdraw and then the subsequent one is causing issues. I'm worrying about doing the update (getting older doesn't help!) In case my car goes dead and all the hassle that entails. I'm stressed enough about other things at the moment. Funnily enough I was thinking that updates that could potentially affect the car should be dealer only. My dealer is an hour away but I may go there and do the install.
I've said it before I know but what's going to happen to these cars in the future?

Jy1 - didn't know yours is all electric which puts a different light on it as regards the car being dead and undrivable. There have been previous threads on this.

Updating from 3.0.3.
12v battery was fully charged as car had just been on a 120m trip to Carlisle and back.
Car now at Newcastle Volvo dealers, in this process have learned a couple of things that may be of use to others. Firstly and naievely thought that Volvo Assist would be pure Volvo technicians but like the rest of the world its cheaper to have a technician with a Volvo laptop who also has a BMW laptop, just wears different hats.......
Something I didn't know was that if an XC40 doesn't recognise the keys there is a special area in the cubbyhole in the central space between the front seats to place a 'dead' key and not the facia plug where on older xc40 models was the ignition switch. Situation at the moment is the car says software has been updated , the app says its still updating, the car drives but doesn't recognise any keys, the sat nav says its still at home, the ESOS system is saying service needed. Volvo software indicates a problem with the Tcam system I'm presuming the software update is corrupt and needs reinstalling. I await news from dealer.

It took Tesla a decade to perfect its car software with stable OTA updates. Google with AAOS is still years behind and needs more time to mature. So I’m keeping my 2020 T4 XC40, its Sensus software (launched in 2015 with XC90) does feel like a 10 years old smartphone, but today it’s stable and bug free.

Just to add I rarely use google voice commands to switch one pedal drive on and off; it takes too long compared to pushing buttons on the central console. I noticed last week that, although the car understood perfectly my request, it couldnt do anything with one pedal drive switching. This was when on 3.0.3 version. Check this evening and its not been fixed in 3.1.9.percymon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 9:50 am Got the notification yesterday - set the schedule for 6pm when i knew the car would be at home with good signal.
Got the 'update complete' notification after 20 minutes.
Jumped in the car this morning...
1. selecting reverse turned the map off in the driver display
2. rear camera appeared initially a little dark - this might have been a one off though, the sun was at a very acute angle and as i reversed and turned the wheel the camera image was normal
3. had to re-arrange the app icons on the central display (as per every software update)
4. everything else appears as it was in 3.0.3; - so far Ive noticed anything else and efficiency on the commute this morning was in line with previous days.
Seems a lot of the software update issues are on hybrid drivetrain vehicles

Agree with sentiments by eugen61, don't think it's time yet to replace the T4.
