I was towing my trailer the other day and it was coasting downhill.
Proper trailer (man's gotta have one! ) being an Ifor Williams with an 8 foot bed but it is unbraked and I don't usually carry much weight in it, my motorbike was the heaviest, so no drama but I didn't really want it coasting so used Manual which I prefer for towing anyway.
Car knows it's attached as it asks if I want to do a light test and warns me that Park Assist isn't available.

Was wondering if the electrical connection makes a difference as I'm using a 7 pin to 13 pin adapter?
Probably over thinking this but alternatively can the car sense the amount of weight it's pulling? When I noticed the coasting the trailer was empty and very light. I then loaded in some ceramic floor tiles and a roll of vinyl flooring and I could feel the difference when pulling away. Didn't notice it coasting then but as said I did start using Manual Mode on occasions.

Could be I'm towing a caravan with a full 13 pin plug, so it's running the caravan fridge and battery. Could be this additional electrical load is reducing the time the engine is off?
Could be. But I'm leaning towards the weight thing now. I dont think it would be good to be coasting with a caravan. The car has anti-snaking so if it can sense that then maybe it can sense what weight is being towed as well? Nothing in the manual of course and couldn't find anything online.

I don't think so for either suggestion, I think it's just down to programming. The coasting has changed between my car and yours as the engine in yours turns off whilst coasting, whereas mine just goes to idle revs.
I used to tow with a Tiguan, and that did coast with the van attached. Disabling Stop Start is purely down to needing the engine constantly running to power the fridge, battery, ATC.

Ah, I'd forgotten that coasting had changed. At least yours keeps the engine running.
So, when not towing and coasting down to a roundabout and then coming to a halt does the stop/start stop the engine?

Yup, stop start activates very reliably. Stays stopped with foot off the brake, and starts at a touch of the accelerator.
When mine was in for a service back in March I had a current B4 as loan, and was very surprised when it went into coast and the revs dropped to zero.
Even more surprised (in a bad way) when I had it on cruise on the motorway and as the cars ahead slowed down it kept going at them! Removing ACC is retrograde in this era.

Certainly with mine it's the unpredictability of the stop start that annoys me. Ok, I could just ignore it and let it do it's own thing!
The one thing that really gets me is that just before coming to a halt the engine sometimes stops (it does say this in the manual though) but then decides to restart again and once actually at a halt it stops and sometimes restarts again! What a pigs ear of a system. I'm generally using Autohold.
I haven't used cruise control in any of my XC40s and rarely in previous cars either. If I had ACC I would use it. The additional cost must be negligible and it is unacceptable that it is not included as standard in lieu of the basic system on safety grounds and "improved driver experience" given the prestige positioning of the car.
