Yes, that should be sufficient to avoid the problem.

Thanks, good to know.
Point being, if you only do short runs, you don't need to drive at high speed just high revs.

High revs constantly for a longer period of time. It would be hard to do so while city driving even if the auto box is set on sport mode.

DPF's do a great job of cleaning harmful diesel soot, we all remember the clouds of black smoke bellowing out of older diesel's. However these devices were often a little rushed through and many sited too far away from a required heat source. The thought of the day may have been, diesel buyers generally do big miles. If you have a diesel and regularly cover reasonable distances you may never detect re-gens happening, but regular short journey of 5-miles or less may result in future expensive issues. If the latter is your intended use you would be well advised to remove a diesel as an option.

Yes, that's why I sold my Yeti as soon as I retired. You certainly knew when that was doing a regen as the engine fan would run and masses of heat would come from under the car.

As usual the dealer made no mention of this and the first time it happened I wondered what the heck was going on!

HugoF and others

if you are not doing at least one journey a week of 20+ miles on dual carriageways then consider changing your oil at least twice as often as Volvo recommends.

The suggestion to only fill 4..7 litres to allow diesel dilution to 5.2litres is not good advice - 10% diesel in oil in no good for longevity of the engine - just ask Jaguar and LR owners with the 2litre Ingenium diesel engines. Oil dilution should be part of the monitoring of the oil condition (not sure how Volvo do theirs, but probably off some algorithm based on trip length / engine temps etc.

£60 for an oil change every 7-8k miles is cheap insurance for your engine

Maybe an explanation on what happens could help. Firstly, even petrol cars can have some fuel enter the crank-case caused by piston bypass gasses condensing, but any petrol generally evaporates with no cause for concern. However, diesel enters the crankcase mainly as a result of post-injection during a forced regeneration where extra fuel is used to produce more heat gases. Not all the diesel fuel turns to gas, part of the fuel enters the crankcase, which produces oil dilution. This changes the oil viscosity, which can be damaging to bearings even from 3% dilution. If you think you have oil dilution issues, and you intend to keep the car, changing the oil and filter early and more often is good advice.

Further obsessing on this issue.
Volvo remove a quantity of oil from the sump, correct? This is the equivalent of switching off the EML! You've lowered the warning trigger point so that now instead of the warning triggering at say , 10% contamination, it will now not notify you until you have 20% contamination (over simplification)! It hasn't cured anything! It just makes you think it's gone away! ACTUALLY IT WILL BE WORSE. You won't know it's going wrong until much later! You will drive around for longer with diluted oil, oblivious and thinking happy thoughts because there is no warning.
Why can they not fit a warning message when the regen is due? Warning light, motorway trip, job done and no drama!
£40,000. + car and you live in fear of bearing failure, dpf problems and engine catastrophe. Or multiple oil changes yearly. Can't be right, surely?

As there is a sensor for almost everything on a car these days, you would think there would be a oil quality/ contamination warning too. Though the real issue behind this particular problem is driving the wrong type of car to do continuous short trips.
