Hi,
I am not planning to have Volvo service my MY 2020 from year 6 onwards after the 5 year service plan runs out.
The dealer has told me that even if I renew via the app (showing £39.90 per year), then I would still need to bring the car to a dealer to have the renewal activiated.
This doesn't sound right to me.
Can anyone comment.

I renewed mine in the app a couple of weeks ago. The expiry date quoted in the app updated instantly, 1 year added to current expiry date. I think your dealer has no idea what he/she is talking about…

I'm pretty sure that the information on renewal says that you can renew in advance of expiry (via the app or online), but if you let it expire then the subscription needs subsequently to be reactivated by a dealer.

...and that seems to be confirmed by:

It's rubbish for Volvo to extend the subscription from the date it expired and not from the date when you renewed it.

I think (hope) that is poor wording, and applies only to the circumstance where you renew yourself in advance (i.e. assurance that you can renew early without resetting the date), rather than that where you have (to have) a dealer re-awaken the subscriptions after expiry. (Just think of a s/h car for sale where the subscription expires - renewal must surely run from renewal date?).

The app is valid for the first 4 years of the car. After that there is a subscription to pay, mine was £34.95.
I spoke to Volvo UK and was told the app subscription is not part of the Volvo service plan but if you service the car at the main dealership (whether a one off or on dealership's own service plan) the app subscription will be included. i.e. the dealership most likely take that into their pricing but probably cheaper for them.
I have been lucky to get the 5 year Volvo service plan for £500 but I have to renew the app myself now. I decided to get two extra years of service plan with the dealership but the app will be included although the cost is now considerably more: service and MOT for the two years £830.

I really don't see how they justify that servicing cost.

£730 for 2 services is cheap for a main dealer service (allowing £100 for 2 MOT’s)
Infact it’s even cheaper if you allow £70 for 2 years app subscription
