No only one I believe. The sharper set up in the RD might give the impression of a different tune but one and the same. Were both cars in the same drive mode as I bet an RD in eco would lose versus a momentum in dynamic

These are trim levels only.

The R Design has slightly firmer suspension but that's the only "mechanical" change.

The one exception is the T5 Recharge in which the same engine gives 178 BHP instead of 163, but again whichever trim level you go for has no bearing.
In some markets they offer two 1.5L 3-cylinder engines - T2 and T3, making about 120 and 163 HP, respectively.

This was niggling me, so I just checked, here in the UK if you buy a 1.5 in Momentum you get a 129hp version, if you get the RD version its 163hp.
The Momentum is only available with the lower powered version of the 1.5 (plus other engines)

Hi
Here in the uk it is the momentum Core that gets the T2 129bhp engine , the momentum and R design both get the T3 163 bhp engine.

There is only one T3 in the XC40, although they upgraded it from 156 to 163HP for MY20, so that could also explain the difference. More likely though is that Momentum you tested was in fact a Momentum Core and was a T2.

I haven't seen neither T2 or any T3 less than 150bp in UK.
As for T3 itself - I am quite impressed with the car dynamics, even on dual carriageway, when you already drive 70mph.

Not sure, however how it will behave with 4 people and luggage.
I tried to put 14 bags of sand into the trunk (that's maximum reasonable capacity) but only drove within the 30 miles zone and couldn't notice much difference, but could feel that the car is loaded.

ushare wrote: Sun Mar 28, 2021 8:58 am Dear all,

I am new to forum and new Volvo owner (so far driving Mercedes). I ordered XC40 T3 Momentum (156hp automatic) for my wife fully load with equipment.
She will be driving it around town and in between towns ( max 150 kilometers in between on local roads ). Per year probably not more then 10.000 kilometers.
Also I will be driving it sometimes around town to save milage on my mercedes.

After testing T3 for 20 minutes it seemed fine for me, but now after ordering it I read people complain about vibrations/rattle noise of engine so I am in doubt did I maybe made mistake in ordering T3 instead of T4? How is your experience between T3 and T4 automatic in terms of engine sound/vibrations/power?

Thanks
I'd certainly always go for the larger engine without extras rather than smaller engine fully loaded.

So, yes, in my view you should have gone for the T4.

Still only managed just over 700 miles , mainly very short trips, in my T3 RDesign -lockdown! So far very impressed with the engine. Computer reads at just over 40mpg so if accurate I reckon that's pretty good at this early stage.

I don't think it matters what engine you get as the ride is just right for the vehicle you're in. I took out a B3 Momentum for a test drive and was impressed with the car overall but decided to go for the B4. However when you press the loud pedal the engine is very harsh and you don't expect it to be so because it is so quite at cruising speeds. Goes a bit when it needs to and feels more than adequate under hard acceleration.
