Does anybody know, do Sensus map auto updates come through the Volvo on call SIM, via Bluetooth from my phone, or what? I have just had mine updated to 1311, issued this month. (Took about a week and 600 miles of driving). Coincidentally I had inserted a USB loaded from the computer with the May 2020 version and wondered why I got the message “ map installation busy please try later” or words to that effect

Through anything other than on-call. So sounds like Bluetooth in your case.
One of the advantages of installing your own Sim card is the map updates happen automatically and take much less time to download and install.
Are you just updating North West Europe or everywhere? Makes a big difference in the time it takes.

If you've got a 24gb/2 year Type data sim then downloading maps via phone is going to chew up all your data pretty quickly at 2gb a map update.
I just wait for the notification and then download on laptop/usb. Quicker, cheaper etc.

I had two map updates in the last year. Hardly any data used for updating, or additional things such as traffic and/or streaming music and phone hotspot. By far the biggest user is the map update
and I haven't skimped in other useage. It's a pity there's a 2 year deadline for the data as 24gb would've probably lasted the rest of the car's life - if not mine !!
It's very quick by SIM certainly a lot quicker than USB - minutes (20 mins and a single journey) Vs hours (across days and many trips) in my experience.

Totally agree with you on this, much quicker and more convenient by SIM.Georgy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 11:39 am I had two map updates in the last year. XC40 | First Edition | 2.0 D4 AWD | Bursting Blue | 19" wheels | Ordered 11/03/18 | Delivered 19th October 2018.
My 24GB, 2 year, SIM has only got just over 1 month left to run. I have always updated all the maps, for all parts of the World that are available, since the car was new and I've only used 10GB.
Other than downloading maps, I've only ever used it as a WiFi hub in the car to browse the Internet, I don't use Internet Radio, Spotify, or anything like that.

Hi everyone ,
I think 1311 is a big one, regardless you do it over sim or via USB.
I may be of course wrong, as I don't actually have sim in the car, but it is usually connected to the house WiFi when parked and to the phone hot spot while driving.
While it showsed me that map update available - it did not let me download it, but suggested to visit Web site.
I've downloaded it onto the USB stick and plugged into the car.
Update process was taking ages and I did give up after an hour, leaving USB stick plugged in.
Next day - I've noticed that the map is updated.
