Just to update my original post: The double sided tape was not strong enough to hold the light in place for long. I have abandoned this solution for now and the light is now a shed light. Back to the drawing board.
XC40 Bright Silver T3 Momentum pro with just about every option plus mud flaps and sunglasses holder.

Discovered this ‘feature’ on my new car this week. Reviving this old thread to ask if anyone’s found a decent solution?
