I seriously regret buying an XC40 (First Edition T5) it is by far the most unreliable car I have ever owned. To date I have encountered the following issues:

1) Loose under tray (twice).
2) Loose door trim which had a nice gap for children to stick their fingers down.
3) Windscreen wipers stopped working in the rain.
4) The pilot assist is unusable as it tries to make you crash into the car in the lane to left of you. (Not fixed despite being taken to the dealer)
5) The sunroof makes a loud knocking sound constantly when it is windy (when it is closed) This is not fixed despite being taken to the dealer.
6) Today the passenger side of the dual zone climate control has decided it wants to be on full heat all the time and cannot be adjusted. The drivers side still works normally.

Honestly if you are looking to buy one in my opinion DONT!!!!!

If anyone wants to buy my steaming heap of sh1te please message me.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment.

Have you asked Volvo about buying back, given they're holding value (FE's)?

With regards to number 5 - I think I have a similar noise - sounds like a 'flapping' noise and I'm sure its linked to a faulty seal but I've also had it checked to no avail

Hi Senwar, that is exactly the noise I have. We went down to Cornwall a few weeks ago and it drove me mad the whole way down. Im really pedantic about rattles so the XC40 and I are not getting on very well! Good idea about the buyback as the values do seem to be incredibly strong.

Must be honest, the noise is very annoying and does spoil my own enjoyment of the car. Thankfully I love it otherwise, so can imagine how it would impact you with additional issues.

Good luck with what you do. I know this doesn't make it better but it definitely seems to be isolated cases of gremlin vehicles.

I’ve had the door seal noise a couple of times. I’ve worked out it’s when the door isn’t shut firmly.

I'm really sorry to hear you've got a lemon (or a turd  )

There have been a few on here with quality problems.

To give a bit of balance, I got one of the first XC40's, a D4 First Edition, March 2018. Now over a year old, 17,000 miles and faultless. First service complete too.

Compares very well with my previous car, a Lexus NX and an Audi A6, both of which had a warranty claim in the first year.

I’m also sorry that you’ve had problems.

I’ve had no problems in the last year. 12,000 miles and 1st service due next week but no problems to report.

I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble with your first edition, I’ve been lucky to have owned mine since September 18(68reg) and so far no problem whatsoever. I really do hope you get sorted as I honestly think that these cars are as good as the reviews say! .
It could be worse and you could have bought a landrover!!.
