Does anyone know the new Tax rates from 2019 for D4 XC40 models just wondering how much it’s going to hurt. I’m going from a D2 v40 so know it will be worse.

What do you mean by "from 2019"?

VED rates usually are amended wef 1 April each year. Next rejig (cough uplift) is effective tomorrow 1 April 2018.

The following years VED rates are usually announced in the Budget before the next period commences (e.g 1 April 2019), and this should take place in Nov/Dec 2018. As such the "2019" VED rates (or indeed any changes to the regime) are not known at this stage (but one can speculate that they will be going up - if only inflationary increases).

[If you mean getting your car now before 1 April 2019, then from memory the VED rates are set out in the latest Volvo's price/spec list pdf. This of course assumes that your car hasn't been registered before 1 April 2018. A simple google search provides lots of explanations e.g http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/c ... k-road-tax ]

Yup, short answer: before 1st April, a D4 would have paid £200 in its first year. From tomorrow, it's £515.

The tax band itself has only gone up by a fiver, but because any diesel car that doesn't meet RDE2 (none do, it's impossible until 2020) it pays the first year rate from the band above.

Subsequent years are still £140pa unless the list price is over £40,000, then there's an additional 5 lots of £310.

VED rates for 2019/20 won't be announced until next year's Budget. Likely to see inflationary increases, exactly as Boomer says.

Luckily my XC40 was registered on Thursday so no tax hike for me, still not arrived at the dealers but looking good for Monday or Tuesday (but as I’m working I probably won’t be able to collect until next Saturday) 🙄

Good thing is, because it's built into the sticker price, anyone who placed an order before the revised prices were published probably won't have to pay the increase. At least that's how I understand it, anyway.

So if dealer tries to charge more we can refuse to pay it?

Might depend on what your contract says - "read the small print"?
