New car paint protection / detailing

Hi All,

I’m now hopefully only about 2 months away from delivery of my car and am starting to think about whether it’s worth having any paint protection or detailing done before I pick it up either by Volvo or a local detailer.

I’d be really interested in your thoughts and any experiences that you’ve had with your cars.

Mine will be an R-Design in black stone

Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian
This topic has been discussed previously, enter it into search as I’m not clever enough to give you a link sorry 🙁.

Heres a thread about ceramic coatings viewtopic.php?f=10&t=883&p=8054&hilit=Detail#p8054

As a general rule of thumb a car won't come out the factory with perfect paintwork, as it's all a to robotic process and I can't see a dealer spending 3-4 hours doing the paint correction with a new car.

I would have preferred to get a local detailer to do paint correction and apply a ceramic coating but due to the delivery dates moving by the time I had something firmed up all my local detailers were fully booked into January so I ended up skipping the paint correction and applying a ceramic coating myself.

The car still looks good but isn't perfect but that was the decision I made as I'd rather that than running without proper protecting with the incoming winter and salt spread on the roads.

Hi, just had my FE fusion red detailed inside and out. First time I’ve had a car done. Looks fantastic and water just sits on the seats if any is spilt on. Will have to see how it last and hopefully will be easier to clean.

Well my car has arrived so went to my dealer today to finalise paperwork and pay deposit. Picking up the car tomorrow. As to be expected the salesman was pushing the extras, GAP cover and Supaguard paint and upholstery protection. As I had gone with the blonde interior I was keen to have that protected especially as the material on the door inserts are also white. So I succumbed and when with the ‘deal’of both GAP and the paint and interior detailing. Don’t expect this to be the same quality work as from a specialist and whilst I can’t remember the exact amount I coughed up (I’m in bed and can’t be bothered to go downsyand check the paperwork) it was north of £600. It’ll be interesting to see if the car looks noticeably different when I go and pick it up tomorrow from how it looked today. I’m also getting them to fit a dashcam too.

Any feedback on the protection? My dealer is pushing it at £309 and I am in two minds.
