Hi All

Apologies if this has been posted as a topic before, but for new owners and those still awaiting the arrival of their new XC40s please keep an eye out for this piece of interior trim located on the side of the transmission tunnel - passenger side if you (like me) have a right hand drive XC40.

Small 'storage' plastic trim piece held in place with velcro that I've had come away from its fixings. My local dealer attempted to fix as part of my 3 month check and that resolution - a larger strip of velcro! - only lasted a week before it came away again. Velcro backing not very sticky and not much for it to adhere to.

No major issue of course, just a niggle and, in my view, an ill designed bit of workmanship on a car that is not exactly cheap!

Have contacted my dealer again and am awaiting their reply.

Thanks all :)

David

I too had this problem on my car back in May, dealer stuck it down with something, when I returned to the dealer again to have my creaky armrest replaced they replaced it with a new pocket, not sure why but seems very secure for now!

still having this issue. Took the car for its first year service and was 'fixed' but yet again it's come away slightly.

Awaiting a reply from my dealer but feeling a little fed up this trim piece is not designed better is a car of this price point - might have to get my super glue out to sort myself!

Have to agree, it is a really naff and pointless feature. I asked an xc40 specialist from Volvo Sweden what it was for when I met them as part of a 'market feedback' exercise that I was recruited for a while ago - even he didn't have an idea! I think that they should just delete it from the spec. (I presume that it is on the same side in LH drive cars so it may be of a little more use in other markets; I'd be interested to know if anybody actually uses it and, if so, what for!)

If you look closely in the brochure, you can just make it out in exactly the same position in LHD cars, ie in the left footwell. I am not sure, but suspect it must be there to give easy access for the dealers to repair whatever is under there. In RHD cars, it looks like it could be used as a pen holder, but this would be a safety hazard in LHD cars!
Knowing Volvo, there must be some logical reason.

it certainly does provide access to various bits (throwing out the technical terms) under the transmission tunnel - sure that a better/nicer solution could have been devised...small carpeted panel similar to one found in a boot compartment.

Dealer currently investigating. To be fair it has been the only real issue i've had (well that and the boot lid mounted reversing camera) so compared to some posts its very very minor
