Potential owner with some Qs

**Also posted in MPG so apologies for the duplicate post**

Greetings All

First time poster and unable to make a decision on engine and would like some help.

I currently have a BMW 120d Auto (sorry) which is coming up for change and I get around 550 miles out of a tank.

Looking at a D4 Auto or T4 auto in R design Pro flavour but would like honest opinions on what engine to get. (probably going to get on a lease as they are sooooo much cheaper.

I currently do about 50 miles town driving per midweek and between 60-120 miles at a weekend when I go and see a relative who lives 30 miles away.

I do a trip to Cornwall once or twice a year but can share that out with the Wife merchant so not really that important.

Can you advise what my best options would be engine wise given that I could end up doing about 12000 miles a year I am on the cusp of either petrol or diesel.

I am spoilt at the moment as I have lots of torque in my 120 (around 400nm) and am conscious that I wouldn't have the enjoyment of the low down pull.

If only Volvo did a FWD D4 I don't think there would be an issue as its the extra weight of the AWD that drops the mpg.

Also, lead times dont look great but I'm not due to change my car until about June '19 so when would be the best time to order?

Thanks in advance.

I went for the petrol, first in years always been a diesel fan. But with all the bad press diesels have taken a hit on the used market, plus I had issues with my last 2 diesels due to the regen as I did short journeys most of the time. I discussed this with the dealer when I was placing my order and he seemed to be leaning me towards the petrol especially when in comes to resale / trading in. So far I am enjoying the quieter drive of the petrol and the consumption is ok for me. Good luck with whichever choice you make, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed whichever you choose.

I’d lean towards a D4 and look at the Polestar upgrade if you want every bit of torque possible. There’s a big thread on here around that.

Unfortunately the car will be a lease so no Polestar for me.
