I have just been reviewing all the comments on fuel economy, as my XC40 D3 Inscription FWD Automatic seems recently to be using more fuel in my opinion. Last Sunday I did a 260 mile journey down to Newport South Wales from North Wales and back using all A class roads with only a small stretch of dual carriageway. The car is set in Comfort mode and Stop Start is activated, the journey log on the Volvo app stated I was getting 49.6 MPG going down and 47.9 MPG on the home journey, having reset the milage trip when I filled up to go and then filling up after returning and manually working out the fuel consumption I am only getting 37.4 MPG. which I am not very happy with, I took my time on the journey so was expecting good figures.
The car itself displays I am getting 43.2 MPG.
How many others have manually worked out there fuel consumption to get a true reading.

Hi yes I have to agree the Volvo readings compared to actual trip reset to a full tank refill calculation myself there is always around 5mpg difference ie I’m getting less than the car tells me every time.

I have found that my actual mpg is usually somewhere between what the car trip says and what the app says.
The app always seems a bit optimistic but not by that much.

I live in Denver, CO (5280 ft. above sea level) and own a 2019 T5 AWD. I average ~28mpg in the city and ~32mpg on a highway trip to the mountains. I confess I play a game to see how high I can get my avg. mpg. between tank fills. I reset my trip meters every time I fill up.

I suspect the altitude, and lower O2 levels, down-rate the engine a bit. I hardly ever put the T5 into Dynamic mode unless I'm really hauling ass inside city highways.

I have my T4 now for 2 weeks and done 1100miles (1750km). Achieved 33.4mpg (8.4l/100km), mainly motorway driving between 60 and 80mph.

I don’t know if anyone’s seen, but on the brochure, it now shows the WLTP figures. For my car, it’s pretty much bang on what I’m seeing, both measured and as the car shows (not a lot of difference for me).

I was averaging around 36-38 on my old (well 2016) XC60 D5 Polestar, so I'm disappointed a newer, lighter car with smaller, more economical engine isn't achieving more. I assumed I had a problem until I saw everyone else was getting around the same, or worse. Wonder what Polestarring the D4 will do....?
Hmm, that was July last year. Latest stats are saying 32mpg on the app. That is not good. Car in for its service, did mention I wasn't happy with the economy, definitely not happy now I've looked back!

I'm assuming that if the app only logs the last 100 days, then it's likely to be the same with the average fuel consumption readings?
