Volvo has the metal fence the goes behind the back seats for the XC40.
Is in the price list.

Not sure how big your dog is but I bought the small version of this one...... https://www.doggiesolutions.co.uk/3-doo ... 050-0.html
I tried it in the dealers demo and it fitted nicely.
Its not the best quality so will probably go to Barjo to have one made eventually.
The thing that really reduces your options is the maximum width is only 36" between the parcel shelf mountings.

These are high quality and well recommended....

https://www.transk9.com/select/volvo/

dont do one for XC40 yet but if you message them they may be able to suggest an alternative that will fit or get a custom design ready for soon after.

Not cheap but good protection.

What sort of dog is it? Pets at home do plenty of different sized ones that do for short journeys if that is all you need.

I'm just getting the Volvo one, can be flipped up so when the dogs not in the car you can still quickly fold the seats down etc with minimum hastle

But it doesnt keep the dog off the rest of the boot / windows and perhaps more importantly, doesnt allow you to raise the boot without the dog being able to escape - not ideal if you get an issue by a fast flowing road.

I have a fold down cage from Pets at Home which keeps dog safe and allows me to use boot without risk. Would like a transk9 one at some stage but its where to put it when needing full boot that I struggle with...

My dogs go on the back seat, people can go in the boot as far as I'm concerned.

To be fair it's only described as a "Steel Safety Grille"
