Silly question, but how do you know whether RTTI is working? Do the coloured lines on the map which denote traffic speeds only appear in RTTI mode or are they present even when traffic data is being processed through the traditional radio channels?
The reason for asking is that I’m trying to work out which is the better way to take advantage of RTTI as well as keep my phone connected automatic.ally. I’ve tried hooking up my iPhone 6s via its personal hotspot, but it seems to need reconnecting manually every time the car is switched off (as the Volvo manual suggests is possible). Does a Bluetooth connection (which seems to stay permanently connected) also provide RTTI? Or is the best answer to splash out on a dedicated SIM for the car, which I’m a bit reluctant to do as I’ve got plenty of spare data on my phone.
I said it was a silly question, but thanks in anticipation.

many thanks "early adopter". Suspected that was the case but good to have it confirmed.

As I understand it, the Volvo SIM only handles Volvo On Call. Wider Internet access including RTTI needs a separate SIM or mobile phone connection.

Agreed, however to the OP, it does state below this option that you'll need an internet connection for this to work, so either tethered to a mobile or the additional sim in the boot.

With a SIM data card added the RTTI appears to work in exactly the same way. I used an EEE card, Data only remember and its fine. Just set up my Volvo on call and its really weird being able to remote start and locking the car, took a while and a couple of attempts to register but works fine.

How well do people find this works? Is the SatNav good at routing you on the quickest route avoiding delays? For delays that appear en-route, for example a crash ahead on the motorway, can it quickly realise and suggest alternative routes?
If it's not very clever I could install my TomTom Go but that would mean mounting it on an air vent which isn't ideal.
