Hi all,

Currently due to collect my XC40 FE on Monday, so I'm just trying to make sure I'm all ready.

I'm buying it on the 3yr 0% finance deal as I'm planning to keep it for a good few years, so I'm looking at GAP insurance should the worst happen and the car gets written-off early on. ALA seem to be pretty good, quoting £262 for a 3yr vehicle replacement policy (paying up to £25,000) ...just wondered whether anyone else has gone for GAP insurance, and if they had any recommendations?

I'm also considering alloy wheel insurance, but I understand the 20" diamond cut alloys wouldn't be covered by most standard alloy wheel policies, so it's a case of finding a specialist provider. I've found Total Loss Gap who do 2yr cover for £149, 3yr for £189, and they promote the fact that they allow more claims per year and higher payouts (in the event of wheel replacement) than others. Again, having never bought alloy wheel insurance before, I'm wondering if anyone else has got cover for their XC40 with the 20" wheels, and whether these prices seem reasonable?

Hi check your insurance policy regarding the gap, most good insurance companies pay out full invoice price in the first year someveven 2 years so you may not need it straight away 😀

You may not need it straight away but I think you need to buy GAP when the car is new, insurers won't sell it as a year three afterthought.

If I were paying by finance I'd get GAP. I draw the line on wheel insurance on the basis I can't insure everything.

There are providers that will commence a policy with a car up to 12 months old, but many do limit it to being within a month or two of purchase.

Whichever option you go with, I’ve always found it much cheaper buying independently than through the dealer.

In regards to wheel cover, I do not believe these are diomond cut wheels, rather just two tone painted, diamond cut is more of a bare metal finish for the silver parts

Volvo describes them as “diamond cut” in the configurator so I would think any insurer would argue against you.

Your right I take my comments back, on closer inspection the lines from the machining process are visible. For some strange reason in my head I was sure it was a painted finish! Doofus here!
