B4 fuel consumption
So many variables. Manual Vs Dual Clutch Vs Slush Box. Software version, Temperature, use of ancillary devices. Slipstreaming lorries, whether you enjoy "driving" or your enjoyment is watching your fuel consumption.

I totally agree with you, so let’s not get into a bun fight. However, if you read my post again you will see that I didn’t say that anyone was claiming an AVERAGE of 50mpg. The devil is in the detail.Nobody mentioned excess of 50 mpg for average all round driving in a B4 FWD. The devil is in the detail and worth reading carefully what others are claiming,
There are some on this forum who have XC40s with the same engine and drive chain as me and are achieving 50mpg plus on some journeys. I envy those people because however carefully I drive, I struggle to get above 40mpg and I’m not alone in this. The OP wanted to know what the fuel consumption was like so my input will hopefully provide a balanced view.
It’d be interesting to hear whether anyone with a MY22, or later B4 is achieving such good results.

You’re right, I made the wrong assumption. My apologies.
OP here. MY22, FWD. I'd originally mentioned 46.8. This trip. Steady run, some roadworks, eco mode

I drive, I believe, with a light foot and I have done 16.5k miles since March 2021. Using brim-to-brim calculations on 47 refuels, my consumption for a tank has been between 36 and 42 mpg.
My overall consumption has been 39.8 and the app reports 40.2 which isn't a million miles away. In the app, I have only twice achieved single journeys over 50 mpg (a 50.1 over 100 miles and a 50.4 over 25 miles, both mainly motorway trips at around 60-65mph).
I find that temperature is a major influence, getting better figures in Summer v. Winter.
I am happy with what I am getting, having expected a real world mpg of 30-35 when I bought the car.

B4 FWD. Short 12-mile town trip this morning - light-ish traffic but many traffic-light stops - dash showing 42.4-mpg.
I assume that, like me, most owners didn’t choose an XC40 primarily for its fuel economy, but it proves to be a popular subject on the forums. I can live with whatever fuel consumption I get, but I’m really intrigued by the huge differences.Have got up to 58.9-mpg at a steady 65-mph on a long run
On a steady 65mph journey Oldie once achieved 58.9mpg. Last month, on a free-flowing stretch of the M6 at a steady 65mph in eco mode I achieved 37.6mpg. That was all motorway driving (service stop to service stop) on a warm sunny day, 2 adults, no luggage. That’s a huge difference.
