Has anyone purchased a second key, if so how much was it. My Wife and I share the car so having a proper second key is essential and I have been quoted Β£130 for a new one which I thought was a bit steep?

I had my care key reprogrammed by my dealer as a standard key free. There is a Volvo bulletin authorising such action.

I'm assuming that (like me) you were supplied with one standard and a care key.

A search on here (I'm on mobile at the moment) should reveal details and the "bulletin" number.

Edited to add.

Thanks Sherwood, yes one regular and one Orange key. I shall confront the dealer on Monday with the tech bulletin and see his reaction. Many thanks!

Aah, makes sense - hope you get it sorted out πŸ‘πŸ»

What functions, out of interest, are you missing with the orange key ?

Memory funtions, you can't add the orange key to a driver profile, so the seat., mirrors, radio etc have to be manually changed after the main key has been used.

Dealer is advising that, "yes, we can reprogramme the orange key, Β£95 please". I've asked why other manufacturers can supply two full keys at point of sale.

No power seats/mirrors on ours. But when the wife goes off with her orange key it changes the audio source to DAB BBC R2, which is all she's bothered about.

Be nice if her name came up on starting, as mine does, but otherwise we're not really that bothered about the limitations with the orange key. It never gets used by anyone else so setting a speed limit on it doesn't arise.

Ask them to read TJ35978 and get it booked in under warranty. It should be done free of charge.
