And how many XC40 owners do you know then?

The thing is that in most urban areas, especially in country capitals, XC40 drivers will be mostly under 40. Countryside or some poorer countries other than UK, Norway or Luxemburg tend to have a decade older drivers.
I applaude Volvo for targeting the XC40 for younger urban drivers (in tech), not having a family but thinking about one. It is crucial for any brand to target younger audience, because they will probably stick to the brand for couple of decades from now.

Just to add another data point, Iβm a little over 40, live in London and work in tech. So two out of three
I wonder if/when Volvo brings out the smaller all electric XC20/30 or whatever name they give it if that will grow their appeal further. Iβd be tempted by a smaller variant of the XC40.

I think it's a perfect point for new families, or small families with 1, maybe 2 max children. You know what, i think i'd jump in on that too. I just feel at times it's hard to navigate London and park with a car as big as XC40 and the reason why we didn't go for 60 or 90, though it offers decent packing space now that we have a baby and certainly more comfy than the Mazda.

Hi Im 73 I was 70 when I bought my inscription pro T5 I have driven Volvos for more than forty years including 850R and v70T5 I chose the xc40 because my V70 was starting to be expensive to run after twenty years of service and due to change in family size and retirement i Idid not need a large estate. I found the xc40 to be a useful size (xc60/90 too large) for my photo equipment and the tech didnt bother me as i build computers and occasionally author websites. I have done low mileage due to corvid lockdown but have found the car good to drive. I dont think I would buy one now due to the chipping away of specs and price rises it is not the good value it was and other manufacturers have caught up
