Something nice about Volvo from Clarkson in today’s Sunday Times. Maybe the value of my ex-display XC40 might go up *again* this year! Almost a better investment than whisky…!

"...all driven by hit blondes and young men in tech" not in my part of the world, I'm male but grey and nearly 70! Seen others in my area with similar drivers also :-)

Clarkson talks right out of Volvo’s marketing book: XC40 is the cheapest, entry model car in the portfolio targeted to hit blondes and young men in tech, every person featured in the car launch advertising material is below 30! Clarkson actually recommends us, the retiree group, V90 Cross Country B5 AWD at £60k. It’s nice to read that Volvo has become the coolest car brand of them all.

In my opinion at launch the XC40 was one of the best looking well equipped and fabulous value for money vehicles on the market - and whoever owns one to late 2020 had the best of the ICE bunch, and will reap the benefits of having such a car - after that date, again only my opinion, value for money has greatly diminished with eye watering price increases and what seems cost-cutting removal of items throughout.

I think anyone who bought one before this time last year has done well tbh. I got mine ex-display with 4k miles on the clock for well under £30k, and 6 weeks later it was worth over £30k. When has that *ever* happened with a used car before?!

I agree. I said on another post I'm so pleased I bought mine new in 2019. Got 12 months left on the PCP after which I'm paying the balance and keeping it. One of the few cars that should be worth more than the final payment and so would be a good part ex. but I wouldn't buy another for the reasons given. In fact I wouldn't know what else to buy at the moment.

I agree! I bought used 2018 D4 AWD with 40k miles on the clock for 40k EUR in late 2020 and now people are offering me the exact amount for the fabulous car that is 4 years old. Nope, I'm not thinking about selling it. My wife just told me the other day that she is already sad because we will have to sell it eventually. Someday in the distant future :))
BTW, I'm in tech, but over 50. Does that still count? Am I allowed to be a Volvo XC40 owner?

Don't know anyone with XC40 younger than 40s
