Hi, I'm new to the Forum having just upgraded ( in my opinion) from a VW Troc, I've just taken delivery of an Auto B4p FWD Inscription in Fusion Red .. delighted with the car so far
Anyway ...... I've been reading this thread with interest and don't know if I have the 7 or8 speed box .. how do I find out?? Should it be on the paperwork or is there some way to see it in the car menus??
Hi and welcome....easiest way to find out how many gears you have is to go on a road where you can do 40- 50 mph.
go on this road and then change to manual gearing,,,,,this means when in normal auto mode move the gear seletor left and right to go up and down manual gearing. keep going up the gears and if you get to M8 then you have 8 gears,,,,if it doesnt let you go past 7 then you will have the 7 speed dual clutch. It appears most of us who have picked up our new cars in last few weeks have the 8 speed but there has been the odd exception to the rule and thats why i started this thread. Please let us know your findings and hpoe you enjoy whichever box you have.

Thanks Gripross, Hadn't thought of doing that but was thinking there might be an 'easier' way that didn't involve leaving the house!! Never mind, it gave me an excuse for a drive .. my first try in 'Manual' .. and I have the 8 speed box. It seems very smooth shifting through the gears and feels it has bags of torque. I think I'm going to enjoy this car !!
Hi
Picked my car up on Tuesday a B4 fwd and in spite of the fact that Volvo customer services saying it would be fitted with a 7 speed box it does in fact have an 8 speed tc box , no problems though .
Go into manual mode (gear selector back when in D) and at 50-60 see whether you can change up (selector lever right) into M8... If you can;t see M8, then you have a 7 speed

I had T3 before this B4 and that had plenty of torque but now i have the B4 i love how it drives, And of course being a Volvo you feel really safe.

Doesn't bode well for customer services....surely they should be able to get something as simple as which gearbox is fitted correct.

Hi
Yes you would think that customer service would get a question like that correct, it took them a couple of days for them to answer, the dealer said it would be an 8 speed without even checking the vin number and with a number of posters saying their cars were fitted with 8 speed boxes I was expecting the 8 speed.
Interesting point, customer services replied to my question via email (7speed fitted), my vehicle order just stated an auto car, wonder what Volvo would have said if I had rejected the car based on the fact that it didn’t have the 7 speed fitted?
