When I booked my (first) service, after selecting date, I was presented with a list of optional extras to add to the basic service.
Unfortunately I didn't screen-shot them and now can't access that page.
The first optional item was brake fluid change. Surely that is either required, and must be done, or isn't required?
Think there was also filter clean/change. Aircon top-up. To name but a few.
I would have expected a service to check and then tell me if that sort of item was found to be needed.
Don't really seem like the sort of thing a driver can sensibly choose in advance?
Am I missing something?

You are missing nothing except your dealer being on the make. As you surmise, if these things were needed they would be in the Volvo service schedule.
