Looks like it’s from the front or back of the seat runner in the footwell

Agreed. I have caps like that on the front of the seat runners, but the back ends are just metal.

its off the end of the seat runner, I had the same problem, I kicked it off with my foot, it I remember right, the one nearest the door.

Thanks guys, that's what it is. I would never have guessed, and really struggle to see the point, I needed to feel the other side to tell the cap was fitted on there, it looks pretty much the same with or without!

Happened to me today after the car's first service! It fits underneath the driver's seat outer guide rail (at the end, underneath)
