As my car will be new, I will have the SIM in the boot, so can use that to keep the Sensus maps up to date.

Follow on question:
My current car allows wireless CarPlay. So, if I wanted to go down the wireless dongle route, is there a brand you recommend, or will any of the ones on Amazon do the job?
Regarding the recommendation for a dongle, what I did was have a good look here: https://www.carplaylife.com and then I ordered the Carlinkit 2.0 and it works flawlessly and is indeed quick to initialize.

One advantage though is if CarPlay crashes or fails to connect (which it did on my previous car as well), you can just unl=plug the dongle from the USB port and put it back again and all is good. On my previous car I had to stop the car, get out and lock the car then restart the whole thing.
Sounds like you had a recent BMW - mine did that. Felt like Windows95. :)

Just consulted https://www.carplaylife.com/ and ordered the
https://cplay2air.com/ dongle. UK price is £93.95 but the discount code 10NOW gets it down to c.£83. It’s charged in $$$s so the £££s depend on the day’s exchange rate.

Indeed it was (and yes it did) although it also happened on a Cadillac rental car a couple of years ago as well.

https://cplay2air.com/ dongle - arrived today. Worked straight out of the box. Updated the firmware to the latest level (July 4th release).

Ok I have just purchased a one year old T5 recharge ,and am already loving it, I intend to charge it in my driveway on 230 volt volvo lead , I wish to charge it on economy rate at night .
Am I best to install a timer at the internal mains supply and run a cable to the end of my drive and put a waterproof socket into a made up box ,keeping the cable plugged in and then plugging into car when I get home.
The timer would enable power after midnight, to enable charging . when it is charged is it detrimental to leave power on until timer cuts out at 8pm ,
Can you see any problems with this method and what alternatives should I look at .
What setups have you all got ? Should I be looking at a professional wall box and getting a grant ! any advice on reasonably priced alternatives would be grateful .

@DADDYCOOL, you can use the Volvo Cars app to schedule charging. No need to use a timer.

There's not a lot to gain from charging from a wallbox in my view. The car will charge at 16A max, while the 3 pin cable charges at 10A. With a faster charge you may get more of the charge at cheap rate if you start with an empty battery but not saving enough money to recover the cost of the wall box.
