Good afternoon all,

First, hello and thank you from me - I've just taken delivery of my new XC40 this week and this forum was a very useful source of information with which to inform my purchase.

I've searched numerous threads on the subject of dashcams and dashcam wiring and not come across the answer to this question however, so here goes:

I have bought a dashcam with a separate battery pack to maximise the amount of time parking mode is active for.
This battery pack draws 9A when charging.

I can see that the advice is to tap fuse slot 86 (alcohol lock) to power a dashcam, but has anyone done this with a dashcam battery pack? The reason I ask is that the alcohol lock circuit is designed to supply a maximum of 5A, and the battery pack will draw 4A more than this.

I don't want to fry something expensive. If the power source is a bus bar connected directly to the 12V battery in the boot, I'm not too concerned, but if the source is the ECU, I'd be very wary.

In the absence of any success stories, I may use a relay just to be on the safe side.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Not an option, I'm afraid, as I didn't buy it from them.
