So, my Data SIM ran out in February this year and I’ve been in touch with Vodafone to arrange an extension of data whilst I was deciding what to do. I’d already gone down the SIM card from the 3 network but was disappointed with their coverage. I eventually found a 24GB 2 year SIM from Vodafone for £45. I plugged it in and immediately got the globe. I tried to register the SIM but had problems. It won’t except the same username (this is set as your email address). So after speaking to Vodafone tech support, it was confirmed that registration of the SIM gives no added benefits. As long as you retain the SIM number, you will be able to top up the card again.
So it appears that there is an alternative to the ‘internet with legs’ SIM.
Hi Dermottdog
So did you just put the new SIM card in and everything worked, you didn't have to register the it or anything? Not collected my car yet but thinking ahead to when I will need one.
Yes, just popped it in and got the globe (I did wonder if I’d have to change the settings but it did it for me). In my case, as my dealer provided SIM expired, my car wouldn’t remote start after fitting a new SIM from the 3 network. The coverage on 3 was a bit flakey. This turned out to be just an unhappy coincidence. Still, all’s well that ends well.

That's really good to know, thanks.

My free data SIM runs out this month so I’ve looked for the 2-year 24GB card from Vodafone on Amazon and elsewhere but it does not appear to be available still. I suppose I’ll have to accept renewal of the present one unless someone can point me in the direction of the £45 bargain. I’ll not go for the Three version because coverage is poor.

I’ve just researched this (I tried to order it again to see what would happen) because I bought one. It would see that there’s been a bit of rebranding going on. They are marketing it as a 30 day sim but with ‘total rollover’. It looks like it lasts for 24 months and any data not used will rollover month after month until the data is used up or the 24 month period expires.
Note, the questions seem to relate to the original 24GB sim and the reviews seem to relate to its 20GB replacement.

Hi
Yes, I just saw this. It seems to have been rebranded. The sim you’ve been sent has ‘total roller’. It would seem that any unused data will rollover month after month until the data has been used up.

UPDATE
Seems like the 24GB, 24 month sim that I originally ordered is no longer available. I ordered mine from Amazon in April. Orders taken in May seem to be coming through as 20GB sims

That's what Amazon sent me, so I returned it for a refund as a misdescribed product.Dermottdog wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:04 am UPDATE

However I found one on eBay - search for "Vodafone 24gb" and it should be the first result. Right now it says they have 9 left in stock.

I must have got one of the last from Amazon. Remember to keep all the details. When it expires, you ring Vodafone and ask them to load some more data.jamie307 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 7:09 amThat's what Amazon sent me, so I returned it for a refund as a misdescribed product.Dermottdog wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:04 am UPDATE
