Hi,
2019 petrol just done 12600 miles and opted for a basic service rather than 36000 mile.
Phoned back and told that basic one was fine but various filters had to be changed which would come near to the £460 36000 mile service.
Novice here so any advice welcome.

There isn't really normally any room for negotiation. A basic service + things it needs will be a price, a mileage based service will be a cost + things it needs.

That's the price asked for and to be paid.

As the vehicle has done so low mileage surely the service is based on time as opposed to mileage. In this case 2 years. What does the service schedule for a 2 year old car show and can the dealer show it to you? It does seem a little excessive

My car was also bought late 2019. I bought a 5 year service plan for £600 for the 5 years.

In late 2020 it went in for its first service having done 4,000 "lockdown" miles.

This year, about September, it will be going in for its 2 year service, at an expected mileage of 8,000.

Pity the service plan isn't purely based on mileage in these Covid days.

As Reg639 pointed out, in a Volvo car service you can’t opt for the type of service you want, the list of mandatory work to be done is given by Volvo based on the number of years and mileage since last service. You could negotiate your service pack in a non-Volvo car service, but choosing to service you car outside the Volvo network would void your warranty.

It is good though, that "Volvo network" is not limited to dealers only.

lawrie1947,
You check with Independent Volvo Specialists or any other garage authorized by Volvo. However, I don't think there will be a lot of difference in scope of work as it comes from Volvo. Would be a difference in price though.

You can take your car to any garage, even during the warranty period. As long as the garage services and repairs in accordance with Volvo, and uses their parts, then warranty is unaffected.

Anything else would be a monopoly situation and is unlawful - since October 2003.

Thanks for the info.
I had booked the 36000 service and phoned back to change it to adaptive service before I read the replies.
Explained the situation and got a discounted full service.
Happy with that but will move to independent service agents when warranty expires.
