Speed camera alerts are illegal in France indeed, but it is also true that providers/manufacturers of Sat Navs – Volvo included - get around that by perfectly legal « dangerous area » warnings as far as French roads are concerned.

Trust me, I drive a lot in France but I have never been asked by the French police about the warnings of my car Sat Nav so I’m quite confident that there is no need whatsoever for arguing fine legal points with them.

However, there’s a lot of speed and speeding control in France (and even more so in Belgium), so unless one likes to pay traffic fines it’s best to not exceed the speed limits. A smart use – where possible - of the (adaptive) cruise control and/or (automatic) speed limiter functions is highly advised.

Thanks for the info

I've been a good boy when driving through France for the last 28 years, after a VERY expensive visit to a mobile office set up in an aire near Dijon - with motorcycle escort 🙄

Good to know that the satnav won't cause any future issues though
