Test-drove an R-Design T4. Plenty nippy enough.
Ended up buying same but T5 because in nearly-new, you get what you get.
On paper the T5 is VERY much quicker. In practice, I don't notice any difference at all.
I would have expected the difference between 0-60 in 8.2 and 6.2 to be pretty noticable.
Not.
Don't really care because I didn't buy a Volvo to race away from the lights, but still a bit puzzled.
T4/T5... really any difference?
I test drove the T4/T5 and D4 and noticed a massive difference between the petrol and diesel as you would expect.
I found the T5 in dynamic mode more responsive - I would have liked to run both on the motorway to see how they handle but never had the chance.

When you carried out the standing start with full throttle and dynamic mode did you not notice that you achieved 60 mph a full 2 seconds quicker?
In order to notice the 2 seconds difference from 0 to 60 you need to set it to dynamic mode and floor it. Otherwise, if driven gently in comfort mode, it’s hard to feel the difference.DanishPastry wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:22 pm On paper the T5 is VERY much quicker. Maximum torque tells the story: T5 has 350 Nm at 1800 rpm, T4 has 300 Nm at 1400 rpm. During overtaking maneuvers at higher speeds there’s a noticeable difference between the two only if T5 is shifted down one or two gears to increase its engine speed by 400 rpm. So again, you need to floor it in order to enjoy the extra power

Test drove a T4 on my regular commute up a two mile long hill and it struggled to accelerate beyond 80mph. T5 just kept going....
Not condoning speeding, but the difference between the two was a very noticeable.

I'm pleased to hear how the extra T5 power is handled. It's there if you need it, or if you demand it; otherwise it sits quietly in the background. Very Volvo. Excellent.
I'm trying to treat the switch from a long series of performance cars to the XC40 (still a lovely drive) as a shift in my driving behaviour and attitude.
