Hi,

Awaiting delivery of my car but trying to get ahead of the game a little. I will be using the Apple Carplay feature, and I'm going to buy a new cable to use on the front port. What length of cable should I get? Basically the idea is to use it just for plugging the phone in as all features will be up on the screen.

Thanks

I went for one of these (but in black)

Figured that 1ft should be more than enough in that front tunnel section. Time will tell if that is correct but if not I've a back up plan for that cable and will buy another.

Also with lots of plugging/unplugging went for a cable that should have some life to it.

I had issues previously with none OEM cables. In fairness I have a feeling it could have been my own problematic system in the golf but I ended up using genuine Apple ones.

Anker cables are pretty rock solid, I have way more luck with them than genuine Apple, and they're licensed.

They will also replace them FOC if they stop working.

I picked up one of these from aliexpress, cheap as chips and great quality. https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32852009680.html

Comes with a little clip to to shorten it making it a littler tidier for under the center console

This works well. Right-angled connectors keep cable out of the way and 6 inches is long enough for the phone to sit happily on the charging plate

Why would Apple Carplay still need a cable? I am still thinking if I should get a 15cm cable or a 1 metre cable. Because I might pick up the phone to read some messages and put it down. 15cm might not be long enough. It's a dilemma of a long cable fluffing around or plugging in and out with a short cable.

In order to use Apple CarPlay per page 483 of the owners manual you need to connect via usb (and use the white edge usb socket). Phone also needs to disconnect from Bluetooth.

Would using the sensus screen or driver display be the way to read messages?
