Hi there! I had my new T3 R design delivered this week. Under load / acceleration there is quite a loud rattle coming from the engine, it sounds like a rough diesel engine! It does this when the engine is both cold and up to temperature. Any ideas? Cheers, Paul.

Could be the typical 3 cylinder engine noise. If you’re used to 4 cylinder petrol engines, than you really notice the difference...

Even the 4 cylinder engines seem a bit crude as they approach higher revs. I had our in dynamic earlier in the week and the wife asked what was wrong....

My T3 is smooth and quiet. It's probably quieter than my previous 4 cylinder Astra's were.

Agree - the 3 cylinder is a refined unit. Suggest the OP may have an issue....

3 cylinder engines have a very specific rattle, present also in VW Group’s 1.0 TSI and Ford’s 1L Ecoboost. The car’s noise insulation makes a big difference, the same 1.0 TSI is much quieter in Audi A3 than in Skoda Fabia. I’m not surprised that a 3 cylinder in a premium car like Volvo might actually be quieter than a 4 cylinder in Astra.

No crudeness with my 4 cylinder T4; runs very smooth at all revs and driver modes.
