Hi everyone, not posted for a while as I’ve not had any problems with the car itself.
However I am starting to think I have a tyre issue!!
I’ve had the car just over 2years (from new) & in that time I’ve had to have 4 new tyres!! 3 from punctures of varying things & now for a ‘tear’ in the side wall (don’t know how it’s happened as car has hardly moved in 6wks!)

Is it something with the Pirelli’s??? Are they too soft for the car?
Can anyone recommend different ones? (They’re not exactly the cheapest to replace!)

TIA

Mine came with Michelin tyres. No problems so far.

I'd see a problem if there was abnormal or excessive wear, but what can you do about punctures? They're caused by something external puncturing the tyre, nothing to do with the tyre itself.

Many garages "try it on" as many puncture can be repaired and don't necessarily need a new tyre. Depends where on the tyre the puncture happened.

We picked up a puncture within the first 500 miles from new, that was on a Michelin

Can't help those sort of things I guess....

What size are your wheels/tyres?

My tyres at a year old are doing fine and would expect to get a minimum of another 12 months out of them. I plan to change them for Michelin Cross Climate or similar to give enhanced winter grip. However if you have large wheels you can sometimes find certain tyres are available in your wheel size.

While age is a factor eventually, by far the best metric in tyre life is mileage.

In my previous car I generally got about 24,000 miles from a tyre, which for me was about 1.5 years. During this lockdown period I seem to be averaging 700 miles a year, so if it continues I expect the current set of tyres will last 34 years 😳😀.

No accounting for punctures though; they can occur at any point in the tyres life, even on leaving the dealer forecourt after purchase.

Havnt got Pirellis on my xc40. but years ago had nothing but problems and expense with them on my 850R mainly with the sidewalls splitting,
would be driving along hear a loud pop and that would be sidewall failure, Got no help from Volvo or Pirelli regarding the problem just the usual check tyre pressures, tracking etc .On the advice of tyre specialist and a Volvo performance car forum changed to Kumho and all my problems ceased. I have not had Pirellis fitted to any of my cars since

Hi, I also have the factory fitted Pirellis on my xc40 its only 2 months old. My past experience with the last car (Volvo XC60) was Continental tyres lasted longer than Pirellis. I also liked the sidewall lip (protector) When I eventually need tyres I'll be putting Conti's Premium Contact 6 on.

Pirellis on my previous car lasted on average 24,000 miles between changes due to wear. No issues in 150,000 miles of driving that car. Always kept to the same model of Pirelli as was fitted new.

I’ve had my D4 FE for two years and have had to replace 2 front tyres and both rear discs and pads! I’ve done 24k but thought the discs and pads would last longer than that! I had conti’s fitted at new but changed to Avon’s, they seem pretty good at the moment.

I swapped my Michelin Primacy 4 tyres for Cross Climate (which came in useful during a winter break in Scotland in February). Usually swap to winter tyres and back to Summer in March but will now keep cross climates on all year. Anyone want to buy 4 off Michelin Primacy 4 tyres (235/55 R18V) with 6000 miles (around 6-7mm tread left)?
