After this crisis, will a xc40 that's been in a showroom, say for 9 months ,be classed as brand new?

I'm plan to buy ,and am thinking about such issues as condensation in the engine etc.

I doubt very much stock will be stored in a showroom. The cars will be outside in the yard.

But if they're not actually building them at the moment they won't be stored anywhere.

Dealers go by model year (MY) so even if it is unregistered you will have an idea.

As the previous post says, you don’t know where it has been stored anyway.

It's irrelevant where it's been stored, although outside yard storage,
is likely to produce more decay.

Fact is ,there are any number of new xc40s you can buy remotely today-try car wow.

When will they become, not new?

Technically new until registered.

Practically, need to consider the build date. Typically, no more than a couple of months between build date and registration would be normal.

I recall some years ago that there were "new" Rover 75s lying round in stock for nearly 12 months after Rover went bust.
