Not much consolation I know, but this was happening industry-wide well before the current virus situation. All manufacturers are now grouping and limiting options. Some brands may be faster or slower off the mark than others, but it's happening across the board and a flexible choice of options (not that the XC40 was a paragon of virtue in that respect anyway - eg try getting paddles on anything other than R-Design) is largely in the past now. It's all in the name of more efficient (= cheaper) production apparently. Personally I can't see that it makes more than eg 2-3% difference to broad production costs, but who am I to second-guess the bean counters?
