Good afternoon XC40ers.

I’m surprised at the lack of knowledge when dealing with the service department reception.

On 2 occasions, I’ve spoken in person to 2 different people about 2 different issues and I knew more than they did.

1st, as my driver heated seat has never worked, I went to the dealership to enquire about my 3 month check. I told the receptionist guy about the drivers heated seat not working and the possibility of something being disturbed during the dealer fit Apple car play. He was adamant that it was nothing they’d done as it’s a software update only. I don’t think that’s the case as car play has additional USB and associated wiring installed. I decided to book it in at a later date.

2nd, I booked my car in for next week and explained that I never received my SIM. The receptionist said that I needed to supply a card myself. I said that’s not the case and he asked another member of staff. They also said that I needed to supply a card. I said I definitely think you’re wrong and after going into the workshop he returned and conceded that I was correct.

Bit worrying really....

On point 1 - you are 100% correct, it is a cable and software and I would guess they did the upgrade to the car so they should know! You need to get the heated seat sorted soon it is start to get cold :-)

2) You might have been better speaking to the dealership sales person rather than the service desk - from previous dealings with the service department the only person who knows anything about cars is the person that works in the parts ordering department.

Hope it gets sorted out quickly - let us know how you get on.

Both dealers I went to when I tried to buy mine knew next to the square root of eff all about the features of the car and how they worked etc. It was quite annoying.

Volvo have customer-focused Product Specialists in sales. It follows that anyone you find in a showroom without that job title probably won't bother to learn about all the technical details of all the cars beyond what is needed to encourage people to buy things.

Of course it could just be that the Product Specialist(s) you dealt with weren't very good.

If dealing with the service department, the person behind the desk isn't going to know anything substantial. Sometimes it can help to speak to someone who works in the workshop, preferably directly without playing Chinese whispers.
