Just seen on another car forum that the new layout for Android Auto is available.

If you download the latest version from play store then start AA on your phone then go to AA settings, there is an option to switch over to the new layout.

It only works when linked to the car by USB and it's to late for me to do that now but will be trying it out in the morning.

It works. Google maps is now the default screen. Then you get the tiled display similar to car play.

I’ve found that the new version doesn’t start up automatically despite it being set to do so.
Anyone else suffering?
I’ve also had it where I’ve not been able to connect to the phone to make a call too.
Not sure if it’s still a bit buggy or I should try a reset/reinstall.

Reference the map display being at the bottom of the screen, I contacted Volvo and they were very clear that there was no plans to change it.

How did you contact Volvo?

It's so sad that they have no plans to adopt the new Android Auto/Apple Carplay APIs and make use of the large portrait screen.

Maybe if more of us would give them feedback they would take it into consideration - the current implementation imho is poor and even poses a safety risk having to look down to see the map. The minimum they should do would be to move the application tile to the top of the screen.

It was via Volvo Customer Services, using the Contact link on the Volvo website.

“Thank you for your response,

Unfortunately there aren’t any current plans to increase the tile size however I will ensure your comments are fed back to our Product Department for future consideration.

Sure it went straight in the bin.

Is this definitely how Android Auto (Not Android Automotive) will look if I add phone integration to a 2019/2020 model?
Every other reference I find shows it more basic...so is this a recent upgade?
