Driving in a 50 MPH area on the M1 and using the limiter that reads the signs so can concentrate on the traffic . Has always worked well but at the weekend the limiter jumped to 70 whilst still in the 50 zone. This happened twice over the 17 miles of speed restrictions.
The second time I noticed I was being overtaken by a another Polish lorry which had a 70 kilometre speed limit marker on the back as do many European lorries. I suspect the car read the 70 and thought it was back in a 70 mph area.
Anyone else had this happen?????

Yeah, as good as it is having the traffic sign reader and speed interpretation on the dash, it’s not accurate enough to be relied upon, best using cruise control and updating it accordingly. The speed sign often misses the national speed limit signs on the matrix boards at the end of variable speed limits too.

The sign recognition can pick up other signs on nearby junctions/slip roads that can give rise to confusion, In your situation it might not be seeing enough of the temporary 50mph signs it might default back to the map setting of national speed limit...just conjecture.

I use the other speed limiter where you set it manually - the car then beeps if it thinks you are going too fast for the road..it will also brake the vehicle to keep you within your set speed. I prefer the speed limiter to cruise control.
