Generic fitment roof bars

We currently have a set of generic roof bars with 4 cycle carriers attached on our current Tiguan which we also previously used on a Kuga. Anyone know if generic bars will fit the XC40 rails?

Almost certainly not. The Tiguan has raised roof rails so, your clamps will be much larger (possibly even wraparound) than those required to fit the XC40 rails.

Bugger. Current ones go about half way round the Tig rails so was hoping they’d fit.

Sounds scary!!

Perhaps your definition of 'fit' is more relaxed but, in order to fit correctly, the XC40 ones need to tuck under a thin lip:

Looking at that pic the ones we have will probably fit fine!
Will find out in July.

Yup, if they're lined with compressible rubber & you're only carrying bikes, you might be ok.

I sometimes carry stuff that can create high lift (windsurfers, kayaks) & I wouldn't consider anything but specific clamps.

The bars will probably be alright, but you might need to change the clamps. The Tiguan bars are open if memory serves, which won’t work on the Volvo’s closed rails.

Yes, they are like C clamps with compressible rubber inserts. We’ve used them on my wife’s last few cars to carry bikes, big roof box and 3 kayaks including a few 1000+ Miles trips without an issue.
When the car arrives I’ll make a judgment call as to water suitable or not. Would prefer a tow bar mounted carrier for the bikes but at £1000+ for the tow bar, I’ll stick with the bars if I can.

Have a spare set of Volvo roof bars if your interested as we have the tow bar and have invested in a cycle carrier
