Hi all,

If you’re wondering whether your shiny new XC-40 will actually be any good in heavy snow then the answer is a resounding YES!

I was in Basingstoke yesterday. Whilst it took me five hours to get home (instead of one!) that was mostly queues. Because people in other cars could not get up a hill and round a bend.

The XC-40 however when put in off-road mode powered smoothly and controlled up and round the hill. I must have passed 30 or 40 shocked motorists!

Once on the M3 I was met with frozen slush in between lanes and again the car handled perfectly and by this time it had automatically switched to comfort mode as I was doing about 30!

My previous car was a TT that got stuck in terrible snow last year and part of my reason for getting the XC-40 was it coping better in winter and boy did it manage that!

That’s really good to know! No snow currently where I am but I’m 38 weeks pregnant and live at the bottom of a hill, it’s not a massive incline but when the snow comes it’s so difficult to get up to the top!

From the sounds of it Ruby will be ok!

That's good to know chewystuey - what tyres have you got on yours? I've tried and failed to get winter tyres, sounds like I might not need them after all. Mine are Michelin Primacy 4 18" wheels on a D4 R-design.

I am in the Highlands of Scotland and have had loads of snow. I have not put winter tyres on yet and think I may not bother. The car has performed brilliantly in pretty thick snow. I have not even used the off-road mode. I am suitably chuffed!!

I genuinely never thought about using off road mode! Doh!

Got cross climates on mine now anyway so hopefully combine the 2

Cool - good to hear! I'm in Cheshire so don't see that much snow and it's first time I've gone for an auto. Grew up with snow though in Scotland so at least I know how to drive in it, unlike a lot of the folk down here :)
