I’m a bit worried how the wiring in various colors is visible under the front seats. Especially when the passenger seat is pushed all the way forward, the wires are very exposed. Is this normal in all xc40s?

Where are you based, and are you therefore in a LHD or RHD car? My driver’s side - RHD - is where the amp is located for the radio, and there are a few wires just visible. The other side has the fuse box, and there aren’t any visible there.

I’m in Switzerland.

I complained to Volvo about this exposed wiring that is the only black mark I can give this car: it detracts from the generally high quality finish in all other areas.
