Long gestation with a surprise delivery

Hi all - Just found this excellent forum.
I had been looking for a replacement car for my BMW 3 Series and liked the Xc40 from my first drive. This was in February and sadly I discovered that all the First Editions were sold out already. I used CarWow to ask for cars and prices but all the dealers contacted said they were sold.

Then a dealer in Chiswick said they had a great T5 coming in, we went and did the deal with an expected delivery date (on the paperwork) of end of April. We were on holiday until mid May so this was perfect for our return.

Almost as soon as we paid the deposit I started getting calls from other dealers to tell me there was a second release of FE's for October/November and I could place an order. Rather smugly I told them all that I had already sourced one.

When I got back I got back there was no communication from the dealer, they were ducking or not returning my calls but finally I got through to them only to be told that the delivery date was November. I was somewhat p*ssed off by this to say the least. They gave me a bunch of excuses about the salesman not filling in the right paperwork on their master stock sheet, blah, blah and, of course, that Salesman had left. (Unknown to them I had the Salesmans' private mobile and he said this was rubbish). I'm 90% sure they had sold the car to someone else, which they denied.

Finally, after not being able to source a car, the dealer principal said they would lend me a V40 until my car arrived, which I grudgingly accepted. However 2 weeks later this still didn't appear to be happening, just more excuses.

And of course all the dealers that contacted me before now had no FE allowances again!

However I got a notification from CarWow that a dealer in Reading had just taken delivery of a S/H First Edition in Red with only 800 miles. The first owner had bought it for his wife, who had sadly had a stroke and was unable to drive. His original dealer refused to take the car back and he put it on AutoTrader where my dealer spotted it, went up and bought it.

Sounds crazy but I actually paid list price for it, although they honoured the fairly generous P/Ex quote I'd been offered on my BMW. When I collected the car I found it had already been fitted with traffic cameras (£300 ish) and had a 5 year service plan (£500) so actually I was pretty happy.

Very pleased with the car which I've been driving since June.
Just a few things I can't get my head around (I'll do some digging on the forum):
The crappy Sat Nav - it's just garbage, (my wife has a Merc A class with a Garmin and it's 100 times better)
Apple car play - can I use google maps, Apple maps or Waze instead (I'm struggling)?
Why don't the auto windscreen wipers and auto dim always stay on once you've selected that option?

Loving the auto cruise and pilot assist

Don't know about the other points, but with Apple CarPlay, as long as your phone is up to date with iOS 12, then yes, you can now install and run Google Maps and Waze for satnav. For some reason, Volvo have not (or at least hadn't at the time of my test drive back in March) integrated CarPlay's second screen so that the directions also show up on the instrument cluster, but that's a small niggle

No change to that as far as I can see, tried that yesterday
