Awaiting delivery

Morning all!

Bought my new XC40 on 6th January, hoping to get a test drive within the next week or so when the demonstrator arrives. My delivery is expected in early March, so not too long to wait (but long enough).

Currently have a V40 R Design D4 and ordered the First Edition D4 in all black (outside and in) with 20” wheels plus a dog grille :)

Question..... Is Volvo On Call subscription available and is it worth having? Also, will my new car have the preheating function I keep reading about?

Will post pics when my new toy arrives

I don’t think that you will get a test drive until the official launch on 22nd February?

I think you’re right Jim, the sales guy was probably being a bit “enthusiastic”

Just been looking around online and I think I’ve found the answer to the preheating, seems it’s an electric heater that is plugged into an external power source. Pretty sure it’s an optional extra (and possibly not for the UK) so unlikely to be included. Mrs Wakey was hoping for this luxury to make the Yorkshire Winter mornings more comfortable.

Not found out much about On Call so would appreciate thoughts on this

Volvo On Call with App is included in the First Edition, after you have configured a FE car, you will see it under Audio and Communication section towards the bottom in the standard features. In different countries the On Call App is a cost option...

"Volvo On Call connects your Volvo to your smartphone and is your digital key to a range of convenient services that make life easier. It also allows you to control your car remotely and includes roadside and emergency assistance services. You can preheat your car, check car status, see its location, send destinations to the navigation system, lock or unlock the doors and much more. Before leaving, you can cool or warm your car remotely by starting the engine or the parking heater via your smartphone. Volvo On Call also allows you to sync meeting destinations from your personal calendar with the navigation system for guidance. You can conveniently keep track of business trips and store them as driving journals. Whether you've got a flat tire, have a breakdown or are involved in an emergency, simply press a button to receive assistance. And if an airbag deploys or the safety belt pre-tensioners are activated, the Volvo On Call service centre will be alarmed automatically. Volvo On Call can also alert you at attempted break-ins and allows tracking of your car via satellite. As a bonus, Volvo On Call provides a stable internet connection via the car's roof antenna and turns your Volvo into a Wi-Fi hotspot for everyone in your car. The Volvo On Call app is available for your smartphone, iPad and wearables such as Apple Watch, Android Wear and Microsoft Band 2 with voice control. It can also be used on a Windows 10 based PC or tablet and is compatible with Flic buttons. "

Not sure it’s an external heater. I think it’s all part of the overall heating/cooling system. Volvo On Call should be included as a feature so long as the car is an Automatic. I got a breakdown of my on order codes and KU02 - Volvo On Call with App - is shown.

I belive that is the case, it's a fuel driven heater, similar to what you might find in a lorry cab or camper van, and in my work LR defender ;) great feature on a cold winter day!

That said I think there is an external heater option available, maybe in colder countries where on call is not opted?

Thank you for the replies, Mrs Wakey will be well pleased if the car can be started and warmed up via the app. Not sure the neighbours will be happy at the engine running on the drive for 10mins before leaving for work at 6am 😂

I’ll check my First Edition order and see if it mentions On Call, if not, a quick call to the dealer should sort it

Further to my last post, I rang the dealer and he confirmed my order includes On Call and explained the preheating. It’s done by electric so the engine doesn’t need to start (happy neighbours) and will run for a max of 15mins. It will defrost the windows, heat the seat, steering wheel and cabin... Happy Mrs Wakey.

My dealer will have a demo model in on the 12th Feb and an official launch night on the 22nd 👍

In my €65,000/£56,000 Volvo Ireland online build of a fully loaded D4 R-Design, the Volvo On Call with App feature was priced at €740 (c. £650).
